Alan earned the Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Master of Dental Science in Prosthodontics with Honours, at the University of Sydney. Following postgraduate studies he was awarded the International Team for Implantology Scholarship to attend the Department of Periodontics at the University of North Carolina where he received full-time training in implant surgery and grafting. Alan was awarded Fellowship to the International Team for Implantology and Membership to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is the Chair of the Education and Research Committee of the Australian Prosthodontic Society. He was by nomination a Member of the Planning Committee of Continuing Education in Dentistry at the University of Sydney, served as a Federal Executive of the Australian Prosthodontic Society and Member of the Executive Committee of the Australasian Osseointegration Society.
Alan holds the title of Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the University of Sydney. He was a mentor for the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) program at the University of Sydney and mentor for the Postgraduate Diploma of Dental Implantology at Charles Sturt University. Alan is a lecturer and examiner in Prosthodontics for final year dental students at the University of Sydney. He is a registered speaker for the International Team for Implantology and lectures locally and internationally. Alan is the director of the North Shore ITI Study Club. His research on dental implants in patients with tooth agenesis, and maxillary bone has been published in the International Journal of Prosthodontics and the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants. His research presentation won first prize in the 8th Biennial Conference of the Australasian Osseointegration Society. He is a reviewer for the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants and a contributor to the textbook "Oral Rehabilitation: A Case-Based Approach." Alan was involved in lecturing for Extended Fixed Prosthodontics 1 at the University of Sydney. He was the convenor for the marquee courses Extended Fixed Prosthodontics 2: Implantology and Extended Fixed Prosthodontics 3: Porcelain Veneers at the University of Sydney.
Alan focuses on surgical and restorative implant therapy, the aesthetic replacement of missing teeth, the management of dental trauma, and the restoration of worn, eroded and decayed dentitions. He works closely with referring dentists, dental specialists, dental technicians and medical specialists to achieve optimal outcomes for his patients.
Alan believes in the use of well-researched methods and materials, and the finest technicians in the country for the long-term success of his treatments. His mission: to provide the highest standard of care for patients and education for the profession.
Alan gave up the opportunity to be an Australian Olympian to pursue a career in dentistry, and he has absolutely no regrets. Married to Michele and with two beautiful children, he is kept grounded by his family.
